Steering Its Own Path in Afghanistan

As Western forces prepare to scale down their military presence, the time has come for India to reconsider its options in Afghanistan. This paper argues that India should increase its existing developmental assistance and take on new a role in strengthening the Afghan National Army.
This programme seeks to identify both the drivers of conflict and cooperation in southern Asia and beyond. It explores alternative analytic frameworks that provide institutional and conceptual entry points for a multiplicity of actors and issues that remain understudied and beneath the gaze of research and policy.
