Who We Are

About

The Centre for Policy Research (CPR) has been one of India’s leading public policy think tanks since 1973. CPR is a non-profit, non-partisan, independent institution dedicated to conducting research that contributes to high quality scholarship, better policies, and a more robust public discourse about the issues that impact life in India.

CPR brings together India’s best thinkers and policy practitioners who are at the forefront of both research and engagement in the policy space, drawing from various disciplines and professional backgrounds. CPR conducts advanced and in-depth research on a wide range of policy-relevant issues, with a focus on India’s 21st-century challenges. Through its research and policymaking engagements, CPR works closely with policymakers in its aim to place India firmly on the path of building a twenty-first century policy ecosystem.

The institution nurtures and supports scholarly excellence. However, the institution does not take a collective position on issues. CPR’s scholars have complete autonomy to express their individual views.

Vision and Mission

CPR is committed to:

  • Asking the relevant questions and building evidence on key policy challenges in India: CPR brings together India’s best thinkers and policy practitioners to conduct robust research that generates new ideas, bridges the gap between ideas and policy design, and leads to strong, inclusive and thorough policy implementation.
  • Shaping ideas, building public consensus and providing expert input to policy: The multi-disciplinary research expertise of the faculty at CPR, combined with the institution’s efforts at direct engagement with policymaking processes, results in initiatives that have led to the drafting of important legislations, enabling reforms, and providing key inputs to the national and well as sub-national governments.
  • Nurturing a policy ecosystem through collaborative platforms: CPR works closely with policy stakeholders at multiple levels – from universities and NGOs to grassroots organizations and government bodies. CPR’s faculty are regular participants in governmental committees and task forces, providing direct inputs and advisory support.
  • Building the next generation of scholars: CPR forms a dynamic hub of scholarly and strategic engagement and continuously attracts some of the best talent in research and academia. In addition to being the home to some of India’s brightest minds, CPR has a carefully nurtured culture of mentoring young graduates with interest in public policy.
